For the first time, a Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp concept SUV with a fairly individual appearance and technical component was presented at the New York Motor Show last year. Then the manufacturers did not report anything about the future fate of the prototype. But nowadays it has become known that the company recently filed an application for registration of the Basecamp trademark in the USA. Such a turn of events indicates, albeit indirectly, the upcoming serial production of the earlier concept.
At the motor show in New York, the debutant was positioned by manufacturers as a more off-road oriented version of the 7-seater Atlas. This is facilitated by the H&R lift kit, which increases the suspension travel height by 1.5 inches, the Traverse MX Concept off-road tires on 17-inch wheels and the corresponding expedition equipment.
Special equipment includes a special roof rack equipped with LED front and rear, as well as a personal off-road trailer, which is a mobile residential complex. The package includes a queen-size bed, a kitchen with water tanks and propane, as well as bike racks on the roof.
